When working on Open World Natural Environments, Foliage Types and the Procedural Foliage Spawner are indispensable tools. However, they’ve been left mostly untouched since the 2015 Kite Demo Tech Push.
Some Needed Improvements:
- Decals can be spawned as FoliageType
- Improved Angle Sampling
- Currently, FTs can only be filtered by Landscape Layer. It would be great if Landscape Grass Output could be used as a filter, too. This would indirectly allow the shader graph to influence FT placement, greatly enhancing flexibility.
- Choose Axis for aligning to landscape/surface.
- Strong World Partition support for Foliage: Part 1 Part 2
- Improved Management of Hierarchical FT Spawning (Shade Based)
- FTs that spawn only in shade should still respect the Landscape Layer Filtering
