Foliage Shadows flicker in UE 5.1

Hi,

I’m running into the following issue with UE 5.1 (source build)

This is happening for me in existing and new UE 5.1 projects always with foliage. I’m using a fully dynamic directional light. I played around with shadow maps and virtual shadow maps, disabled all LODS, increased or lowered shadow distance. It’s always happening.

Anyone with the same issue or is this just something happening for me? Is there any workaround or solution?

Check your shadowing techniques.
IF ray-traced, there’s a distance. if not ray traced, there’s cascaded shadow maps.
There used to be a good lesson in the learn tab about shadows from Sjored De Jong…

I think I’m having the same problem. Its only happening when using the Shadow Maps (CSM) instead of the virtual shadow maps. Is the problem gone when you have a different light angle? F.E. when its like 12 pm and the shadows arent that long.

This is definitly not the case as I also wrote in the question above. Some closer objects just seam to popp out while others are still rendered.

For testing I also increased the bounds of the objects to a extrem, no changes.

Switched between Shadow Maps and Virtual Shadow Maps, did not make a difference.
It applys at all angles, it’s just less obvious sometimes.

Did you find a solution? I’m having the same issues
