Foliage Shadows Are Too Dark

This picture describes the problem best. The foliage is casting a very strong shadow on itself. For both grass and fern mashes. Wondering what the problem could be?

I have tried cutting the shape of the leaves for the fern better and the situation got a bit better but the problem is still there. Or is it just how it is supposed to be?

The on on the left is cut to shape.

I did create a sphere to transfer normals.

Lumen is known to over occlude foliage in some cases. First, make sure the shading model is set to two sided foliage.
Next, look at the lumen scene visualizers. Results will also vary if using hardware or software lumen. With SW lumen, some have had success using a proxy mesh for the distance field generation (can be set in the mesh settings) instead of the actual mesh. You may also consider unchecking the box “affects distance field lighting” for the mesh.

Thank you for your help on this matter. I did enable two sided foliage as a shader and unchecked “Affects Distance Field Lighting”, the problem seems to be gone! Thank you.

One on the left has those setting enabled.
