Foliage cast static shadows

Hi,
Why my foliage doesn’t cast static shadows despite of set “Cast Shadow” and “Cast Static Shadow” in foliage settings?

I’ve setup a similar test scene in 4.4.1 and everything appears to be working fine on my end. I’ve made sure to setup the scene with a lightmass importance volume and also up the lightmap resolution of the landscape from the default 1 to some higher value (something like 4 or 5) for higher quality shadows.

What version of the engine are you using? It’s worth noting that static shadows for foliage was not introduced until the 4.3 release.

The only thing that could be is that you use the “translucent” blend mode in your material -> choose “masked” instead and connect the alpha with the opactiy mask. When this doesn’t solve your problem, please post a screenshot of your material and light setup :slight_smile:

Emmm, it’s probably happened because I have movable light on scene. Is it possible to bake static shadows only for foliage?

No, it should work with dynamic lights :slight_smile: But I think now I know what your problem is -> go closer to the terrain with the camera, because shadows will be culled over the distance. When you look very closely onto your picture you can also see it -> right bottom corner
