Summary

I added a “Fishing Zone” to my map with custom loot. Everything worked fine until I tried shooting it with a rocket launcher. The fish were then destroyed, and dropped random items such as the “Rusty Can”. The fishing zone is still intact, but the fish were gone, and the zone no longer gave custom loot. I’ve tried looking in the settings of the fishing zone but couldn’t find anything to fix this issue. I’ve tried looking online but I can’t find anything here either. I don’t even know if this is intended or not but I would like to know if there is a fix because this is a crucial part of my game.

Steps to Reproduce

1: Place a fishing zone in a lake.
2: Equip a Rocket Launcher.
3: Shoot at the fish under the fishing zone.

Expected Result

The fish would survive the rocket and remain there, regardless of what the players do.

Observed Result

The fish were destroyed and dropped random loot. The fishing zone no longer gives custom loot to the player.

Hey Dunkeyyy69,

Have you tried putting a barrier around the fishing zone with block weapon fire on ?
Hopefully it won’t block a fishing rod cast, but it would probably block a harpoon…

I just tried it. It blocks the fishing rod cast and also I’m pretty sure a rocket launcher would still break the fishing zone even with the barrier. Also the player would be on top of the barrier if they tried to jump into the water which I don’t really want.

Hi all,

I think a path forward on this might be with an engine-level ‘Blocking Volume’. There’s an overwhelmingly large number of collision presets on it.

I experimented with one of the ‘FortProjectile’ presets, but that’s more for “If you’re a projectile moving through the world” instead of “You will block collision with projectiles”

The fact that the fishing rod cast probably uses some projectile systems would be problematic.

I’ve heard of fishing with dynamite, so I think there is a chance this is the intended response. (Also, in the context of Battle Royale, trading a rocket/grenade for the ability to quickly loot a fishing hole seems reasonable)

Be nice to have some settings along the line of

  • Can be damaged
  • Explosive Fishing On, Off, Consumables Only ???

Can you get a workaround by using the Pool Type - Trigger Only setting and using an Item Granter to drop items in the players inventory ?
