First-person hands disappear when looking upward across multiple weapons and outfits

Summary

In a UEFN playtest using the First Person Camera device, the player’s hands and arms disappear at certain upward viewing angles while the equipped weapon remains visible.
We first noticed this when looking toward a custom helicopter, but reproduced it while looking at empty sky at the same angle. The exact angle at which it occurs has not been measured.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start a playtest using the First Person Camera device.
  2. Equip the Ballistic Nemesis AR.
  3. Tilt the view upward until the hands disappear.
  4. Repeat while aiming down sights.
  5. Repeat with a pistol and a different outfit.

Expected Result

Hands and arms remain visible and correctly attached to the weapon throughout the supported aiming range.

Observed Result

Hands and arms disappear at upward angles, leaving the weapon floating in view. This occurs both during hip-fire and while aiming down sights.

Additional Notes

Troubleshooting completed

  • Reproduced while looking at empty sky beside the helicopter.
  • Reproduced with both the Nemesis AR and a pistol.
  • Reproduced with a different outfit.
  • Changed the first-person FOV from 80° to 90°; the issue persisted in both hip-fire and ADS. Restored 80°.
  • Project code contains no calls that hide the player character.
  • The First Person Camera has no focus target override.

Possible related issue
An Unreal Engine forum report describes similar angle-dependent disappearance and reports a fix by increasing the hands mesh’s Bounds Scale. Bounds culling is only a hypothesis for our case; we could not find a supported UEFN control for adjusting the native first-person arms’ bounds.
