First Person Camera Device Causes Fortnite Client to Crash

Summary

When making a creative map utilizing the First Person Camera device, it is causing our Fortnite clients to crash. The timing of the crash is inconsistent. Sometimes the crash occurs immediately on join, sometimes the crash occurs several minutes into the game.

There are no error codes associated with the crash, this is the message displayed: “Fortnite has crashed. We’re very sorry this happened, and we are working towards preventing it in the future. You can get help online at Fortnite Technical Support”

We do not have clear replication steps at this time.

Additional Notes

I will update this post as we learn more information.

Others are reporting crashing happen when they, or other people in the lobby leave the game.

We have verified that the condition is specific to the First Person Camera device. We have recreated the same map, with no First Person Camera device, and the crash does not occur.

Other maps with the First Person Camera device crash similarly.

Switch platform is most affected

FORT-825734 incident has been created. Status is ‘Unconfirmed’.

Performance on PC on rendering mode seems to survive the events that cause crashes. Performance mode on PC does see MASSIVE frame drops, to 0 for 1-2 seconds. But it recovers.
