Finally Took the Leap into Unreal Engine – Some Thoughts & Questions

Hey folks,

After months of watching Unreal Engine tutorials at 2AM and lurking in this forum, I finally decided to get my hands dirty and start building something with UE5. I’ve mostly been messing around with the basics—level design, lighting, a bit of Blueprint (which is slowly starting to make sense), and I gotta say… I’m loving it so far.

Coming from a non-gamedev background, there’s a lot to take in. I spent the first few days just trying to figure out what a “Pawn” even is  But now I’ve got a small scene running with a third-person character, some basic AI, and even a UI that doesn’t look completely terrible.

A couple of quick questions if anyone’s got a minute:

  • Is it worth jumping into C++ right away, or should I get really solid with Blueprints first?
  • Any tips on optimizing scenes for mid-range PCs? My poor GPU is crying already.

Honestly, just wanted to say thanks to this community. Even without posting before, I’ve found so many useful threads here. If anyone’s working on something cool or looking for people to collab with (even just to learn together), feel free to hit me up.

Catch you around,
