Hello, a file which i was created with 5.4.1 after update to 5.4.2 not worked. It was crash while every opening. After some tries and check google for this issue, i see that problem cause of dx12 and sm6. So i deleted all files except uproject and content file so it was turn back to default settings and its opened. And when i activate sm6 and restart file its start to give crashes again while opening. Btw if i tried to create empty file with raytracing its again give crashes while opening. Here is the crash report which i got everytime:
I have this exact same issue. I haven’t been able to use Unreal Engine in 2 months. No one seems to have an answer. I’m using a 13900k & an 4070 super so I cant imagine this is a hardware problem. Then again this is my first time EVER even opening Unreal Engine. This is a HUGE headache. It runs on my son computer though, he has a 1080ti and a AMD threadripper. I use to have a 1080ti as well before the upgrade and it still gave me the same error messages.
Welcome to the Unreal Engine Community Forum. I pulled another thread where someone was having this issue and they seemed to have found a solution. Here’s a link Crashes opening a 5.4 project - Let me know if that resolves it for you.
It looks like the crashes are due to DirectX 12 (DX12) and Shader Model 6 (SM6) after the update. Try keeping SM6 disabled and using DX11 instead. Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date and check if your hardware supports SM6. If the issues persist, consider creating a new project or checking Unreal Engine forums for solutions. Avoid using ray tracing for now until a fix is available.
