Hey community!
I’m exploring Fortnite creative map development and have a few questions. Firstly, is it possible to save player progress in a map? Can the structures and creations persist when they return?
Also, curious about the payout system – how does it work, and how can one calculate earnings with the average online player count?
Another query: Can custom textures be applied to the creative map, or are we limited to the default options? Lastly, is the creation process done directly in Fortnite, or do we need additional programming modules like Python? Any insights or experiences are highly appreciated!
I am kind of a new creator myself so my knowledge is limited. To save player progress you can use the Save Point device (looks like an old 3.5 floppy disc in the device section of creative.)
As far as earnings, if you are talking about creator earnings, there is information in the creator portal for things like that. You should have an account there if not, google it and create an account. Also, do you have your creator name as approved by Epic ? You can’t publish a game without it and can’t earn without it. I didn’t see anyway to save structures on the Save Point device but it does save pretty much everything else. Check the documentation on that for more info. You can learn how to use UEFN which is Unreal Engine for Fortnite to create custom things like textures and other items. I am just getting into it so I don’t know a lot but you can find all the information and instructions on the EpicGames.com site. You can also do more in the base version of UEFN which is just Unreal Engine 5.3/current revision (without the for Fortnite part but you can still use it to create things to import into your game). There are other free software packages listed on the Epic site that are compatible with the Unreal Engine and a whole lot of other things like community creations and things that you can buy for your game that were developed by other creators. I am not sure how that all works yet but all the documentation is on the same Epic site. Hope this helps. Good luck and happy creating!
Just fyi, my creator name/code is CreatorNation446, that will give you an idea of what the creator name looks like and is, if you haven’t already got into this. You need to use a name that no one else has and Epic has to approve it (so no naughty names! ha ha) Just Google for the site called “Support a creator in Fortnite.” As far as I understand it, you need to have people choose you as a creator to support, then you get a small percentage of what they buy with real money for the game. I think they still have it where your supporters have to pick you every two weeks or they will be taken off your support list. It’s kinda lame but it is what it is. I think it used to be that your supporters would be on your list forever unless they chose someone else. So you really have to promote your Creator name and remind people to keep selecting you every 2 weeks as the creator they support. (If I am wrong about this because they changed it please let me know in a reply.) Personally I don’t really plan on making money. I just like to do it for fun. But if you get there then good on you! That would be awesome! As far as promoting your games, I have found that I get a lot more views on TikTok than YouTube/shorts for promoting my stuff. But it is good to be on more than one platform, Facebook reels, Instagram are others. I just do TikTok and promote my YouTube channel on my TikTok. But… I have a lot more views on TikTok. Keep in mind that you are only appealing to a Fortnite audience for the most part so don’t be discouraged if your views aren’t super high or if the stats show that a lot of people swipe up after a few seconds. Keep the videos short like no more that 30 seconds to 1 minute to get more viewership stats. You can do longer ones up to 10 min on TT if you want do do a feature video of your game or a demo of something. But short videos I find to be better. Promote your creator code (I just realized I need to do that more). Have some fun with editing some of your gameplay to make funny videos to grab more attention. For example, I do a section called “Dumb ways to die…In Fortnite!” So anytime I die a stupid death in the game I grab that 30 second clip with the app PostParty that Fortnite uses so you can keep some video of your play. You have to link PostParty to your game account for it to work. Then the clips you grab will be stored online in the app and you can download them to your phone and edit them with your favorite editor app, then publish it to whatever platforms you are on. PostParty will put their logo on the end or your video so I always edit that off of mine before publishing it. I use a phone app called Video Maker that is pretty good and user friendly with a lot of editing options for armature videographers. Good luck and keep your stick on the ice! (we are a hockey family! Go Penns!) lol
