Feet alignment in ABP vs. Control rig

Hi,

we started to use Mover movement component instead of standard CMC and we found that Foot placement node is not compatible with it - there is literally a TODO that the node currently uses only CMC. We can adapt the node quite easily but:

The first issue is that Feet alignment is broken after that - I suspect that Foot placement node which we had to bypass so we left only Leg IK node there like:

Foot placement -> Leg IK

Is it possible that Leg IK won’t be working without Foot placement?

We also found that there is something like CR_Mannequin_BasicFootIK which seems to be a replacement of the LegIK. But I am interested in high level view of the similar problems in ABP. Is it better to avoid these legacy nodes and use custom control rigs which can be similar to BasicFootIK?

But I guess that this CR does not support the feet planting and this is a different problem. Do you have any medicine for this part of the problem?

Thank you!

Jiri

Hey there,

Leg Ik does work without foot placement, but its main job is to align the specified FK bones to the internally specified IK bones, which the foot placement node modifies. You would need to modify those bones with another system to have it work. The Two Bone IK node allows you to drive the target position of the end effector via the graph, so you might be better served using that instead.

We are introducing more concepts to Control Rig for IK handling, as you can do that at runtime. There is a small amount of overhead associated with Control Rig compared to the IK nodes, but we are investing significantly in that area. That said, we will still be supporting the anim graph nodes. We are planning on showing an example of planting in Control Rig in the future.

Dustin

Thank you very much.

I guess that we will use CR instead.
