Extend default luminance range toggle malfunctioning

Ok, so. Have been working on a project for some while now with “Extend default luminance range” active under rendering sections - In fact, it was grayed out. I couldn’t turn it off if I wanted to.

Just opened the project today after a month or so away and the scene is very blown out. All the PP and project settings are untouched. Adjusting any manual, basic, or histogram based exposure settings in any PP volume had no effect on the visual.

After messing around a while I

  • opened the DefaultEngine.ini and manually set “r.DefaultFeature.AutoExposure.ExtendDefaultLuminanceRange=False” (It was true originally)
  • Saved, closed the .ini
  • Opened the level back up and visually nothing had changed.
  • Opened project settings and saw Extend default luminance range was now unchecked as expected - but not grayed out anymore
  • I checked it True again and the scene’s rendering went back to normal. A restart was prompted
  • If I restart at this point, the scene opens back up blown out
  • If I don’t restart than the scene appears as expected and I seem to be able to continue working as normal.

That said, this is a loop I need to do now every time I open this project which is not too great. Has anyone else had instances where it seems that “Extend default luminance range in Auto Exposure settings” is malfunctioning?
It seems to not register that it is set to true and is displaying the scene incorrectly as a result.
