Ethics and Epics collaboration with the military sector.

yes, gps is a great example. Im not saying its wrong, topic is too vast and im not the expert. I think it depends on country and culture. Where I am from, military isnt known to be the science source, rather a place where u defend your country in case of war. Hence my reaction.

Quick google search gave me interesting results on things developed for military used in everyday life.

If he’s concerned about using a game engine that’s also used by the military there’s a great many other things to be concerned about for the same reason, though I doubt that people think about it.

neither of those links mentioned super glue, how rude:)

well tell him what are those things so he can be concerned about them too.

Opinions are like… something in the human anatomy… everyone has one. Feel free to express your opinion on the matter, just keep in mind that it is us (active and prior military members) that make sure you have that right.

fixed

Right now the biggest concern in the UK is the fact that our military may start a Syria bombing campaign in under an hour. So the timing of this news makes me feel a bit uneasy. :frowning:

Morality is an argument that can’t be won but as part of the debate military use of “gaming” goes all the way back to the point in time when the need for a military was first established be it using wooden guns or digital bits and bytes.

As it is what it is the use of the Unreal 4 engine in this case is a micro issue as there is not a single game using tactical simulations being used in ways that is distasteful to ones own ideals as to morality…including Jack Thompson.

Thanks! You are correct

Although I would have rephrased it with just using a , “(if you live in the USA and are a US citizen)” :stuck_out_tongue:

Let me be the first to say that without collaboration like this with the military, we wouldn’t have things like the G700 LED flashlight (sarcasm):

Hopefully someone else gets the joke…

+1.

And considering all the actual problems we face in the world, it seems one could be worried about much more than the military making games/simulations.

I don’t even understand how this could possibly be a bad thing.
Congrats Epic.

Glad Epic got this contract… It ensures that they will continue to thrive…

I for one fully support this partnership! Especially if it means less soul crushing CBT’s.

The OP seems to be of the naive assumption that if we all just got together and sang kumbaya that we wouldn’t have a need for militaries anymore.

How about you work on dissolving the concept of the nation-state as well as separate regional culture and religions, and we can have a discussion about laying down arms. Until , removing one nation’s military capability would only empower those that were not so foolish.

The OP has my sympathy for bravery.

Except for the fact that no one is saying that. There is no need for additional support for the troops, expecially usa troops and expecially in this period.
isn’t better to glorify doctors instead of soldiers?

I think helping the US Army soldiers to train how to kill someone with a perfect headshot under pressure can not be praised enough. One simply has to realize that without such training it would not be possible to invade other regions of the world for financial and economical interests, cause mayhem there and destabilize them completely, and by doing so plant seeds that a decade later will blossom into the beautiul flower that now is the IS. Go on Epic! The mentally disturbed egoshooter business is not enough!

Hold on, just thought of something: ‘We are training to turn wars into ‘clean and precise wars’’. Clean wars - does anyone here know what an oxymoron is?

I am in love

War in general is diminishing. We live in a relatively peaceful period.
