I opened a project, which I haven’t updated since last year (approximate date: April 2025) and the default landscape layers in Chapter 4 are not working correctly; that is, the function to paint the terrain does not paint according to the selected layer and in some cases the terrain breaks.
They added a Blend Method setting to the Landscape Layer Info Object. Can you check what your Layer Info files are set to? I set mine to No Weight Blending which fixed an issue I was having (not sure if it’s the same issue). You can also try the other Blend Methods.
The layers already appear to be set to “No Weight Blending”, and I can’t edit them because they are part of the default Chapter 4 landscape material. I suspect the issue is directly related to the landscape itself.
They (Layer1_LayerInfo, Layer2_LayerInfo, etc.) should be files that you can edit. You can browse to them by clicking the folder with a magnifying glass icon.
If the holes in the terrain is the issue, you can remove them with the Visibility Tool.
It is not a visibility tool issue because the landscape sometimes appears invisible, unpainted, or painted with a completely different layer at random.
I also tested editing the landscape in a completely new project and the issue still persists on another island. In addition, I fully uninstalled and reinstalled UEFN, but the problem continues.
Finally, I cannot edit the Chapter 4 landscape layers (or other default landscape materials). Even after reinstalling the editor, the assets still appear as read-only/cooked assets and cannot be modified.
That’s weird. It seems that something is off with the Chapter 4 landscape. I will try to experiment a bit on my end when I get the chance. I contributed a vote.
The Chapter 4 landscape material is working fine for me. I created a new level in one of my projects. It didn’t have the Chapter 4 material on the Landscape, so I assigned it myself. I didn’t see any of the issues you showed. I removed the old layers, and I was able to create new layers to match the new material and create the Layer Info assets (which are editable once created).
had issues with layers or terrain tools before, one reason to not use them that often. things can break, if you remove or add stuff, it may not like it, then to blend between some tools. some might be improved now, would be curious if you experience more bugs. if creating an test island and if they will have similar issues.
