It applies for all prizes
Our machines at Epic are pretty beast - we’ll make sure we can handle what you send. I would make sure it runs well on your hardware however - don’t bank on us to have something infinitely more powerful that what you can do. Part of game development is performance optimization!
Agreed, it’s good to optimize things, but when it comes to short game prototypes like games on game jams tend to be, there isn’t always extra time to tweak things so that they scale well to all ends This kind of thing wouldn’t probably be that big issue on regular game jams but I’d expect more visually heavy entries this time
Of course I’ll make sure my own entry runs well on my own hw which isn’t that high-end anymore (i5-3570k + GTX670), just wanted to make sure I don’t have to make extra effort for the lower end gear if there’s no benefit for it (I’d rather focus on the game itself).
Perf isn’t something we normally take into consideration unless it deeply harms the experience or makes the game unplayable. Think you’re in good shape
A slightly changed sidescroller template wil not likely get a top spot .
Based on the total count of qualifying submissions.
So not every submission wil qualify for the random ticket?
Not sure if thats really a ‘solution’ though. Whats to stop teams of 2 from adding 3 friends names and info to the team even though they arent involved at all and if they’re bogus friends win they’d just keep the prizes themselves. Whats to stop a solo entry from adding 4 bogus friends names to their team to get four more tries at the draws. (they can be real friends and addresses even.)
The original idea is the fairest. The draws should be done by teams regardless of size. Teams can distribute their prizes won internally as they see fit. You participate as a team, you win or lose as a team.
How about random draw between teams and if team has more than one member, they’d draw again one winner from that team? That would prevent people from cheating with extra team members.
Ill just cut that titan in 5 pieces…
any1 wunna join my team?
Nothing because they don’t gain anything from adding fake or non participating people to the team. Each name is separate and is placed in as such, if its not your name that’s chosen you lose, end of story. Adding fake people does nothing to your chances. Actually adding fake or non participating people increases your chances to lose, because there are more people in the pool. I’m pretty safe to assume, epic will ask for photo id. I mean they aren’t just going to send it to the first person who emails them. Honestly if someone is going to go through identity theft for this game jam, there are so much bigger problems in our community.
The original idea isnt fair at all… A single person has so much more of a than 5 together. This is the fundamental problem. The nvidia prizes are not suitable for teams, nor does it make any sense to choose an entire team for a single item, just choose a single person from the entire group of devs, end of story. There is no reason to select by teams out of the hat nor does it make logical sense.
All makers of compliant games get placed into a hat and they are randomly selected, there is no way to cheat this. Everyone has equal chances. However if they choose based on teams in a hat, you have much better chances going in lone wolf for nvidias prize.
I really don’t understand what is so hard to understand or why people even care, its not even that massive of a change. It just stops people from the incentive to split there team to individuals and make a barely compliant game just for the nvidia prize entry.(its not hard at all to create a compliant game the rules facilitate fun, they don’t make it hard for people to participate. remember there is an entire week, idk about you but many people can do allot in just 2 days let alone 7) Sure it reduces your chances but now has the same .
Edit I feel like a broken record. Enjoy your day.
To be honest i wonder if they should have done what other Jams do, don’t announce prizes until after the comp. That way fair or not its done and over.
owninator
I was wandering thru an old dusty dungeon earlier n found a rusty old axe, need to borrow it? lol
I might need to level up B4 i can destroy a titan
I can most defiantly see these prizes causing fights between team members. When we won the game jam it wasn’t even 6 hours after we won that I split from the team. Wasn’t even any money involved yet. Ruined my spirit for the Game Jams.
Honestly man I think you’re just not understanding.
If I add my friends name to the list and my moms name and my girlfriends name and my cousins name to my team and one of them win, they’ll just give me the prize, no “identity theft involved” just a few extra names to type up . So I am increasing my chances 4 times. Not sure why you don’t understand that, its pretty straight forward.
Furthermore, if I spend 50 hours making a game on my own. And a team member on your team spends 5 mins packaging the game and nothing else and he wins the draw once or three times in a row is that really fair? to the rest of the participants including the other members on your team?
If thats still not clear I’m done explaining it to you lol. I’m not even entering this jam anyway.
Hey all - we’ll have a solution that fits’s needs
Thanks for being so passionate about fighting for fairness!
I might join for this, depending on the Theme :).
If I can, let’s go into my first gamejam
Identity theft is when someone pretends to be someone else to get a benefit or cause harm. You’re posing as those people. They did nothing to your game or help at all aka you’re posing as them. Identity theft.
Yes its fair, because has the same , not sure why you don’t understand that.
Speaking for myself, I don’t super care how the prizes are distributed. If it were up to me, they’d all just end up stacked on 's desk to thank him for his heroic streams. Just, you know, the distribution scheme is a procedure, or a mini-game if you will, and procedures/game design is interesting.
I’m looking for a team too!
I work on archviz and I have a little bit of experience on level design.
