Ugg… depends on the theme. I’m guessing it’ll be a Halloween theme
I would be interested in participating if it does fall into the theme / genre of the game I am intending to make (currently making a concept demo for it)
edit: Does the game have to be 2D available (monitor compatible) or can it be designed for VR only?
I hope not, as much fun as Holiday themes can be, they can be extremely limiting. Not appropriate for a Mega Jam anyway.
The Great Pumpkin or Ghosts & Goblins or even worse Holiday Horror games, just too cliché for a Mega Jam.
btw… which version of the engine is going to use?
I like using the most recent version usually but have had problems in the past with using the newest version during a jam but the bug list for 4.9 is very intimidating.
Ditto. Holiday related themes are weak and can be pretty limiting in terms of creative freedom / interpretation. At the same time, the theme should be specific enough to nullify pre-planning. It’s a tricky one!
is something I did just out of curiosity and thought I’d share.
Number of teams registered so far with members count
format is A: B where A is a number of members, B is a number of teams with a number of members = A, I hope it makes sense.
1: 102
2: 35
3: 23
4: 18
5: 27
So we have 102 teams with just 1 member and the least favorite number of members is 4, there are only 18 teams with 4 members registered so far.
Quick question, what is the policy on using stuff like animations/rigging/character generator for the game jam? I noticed that they have a promotion going on at the moment where everything is basically free which times up nicely with the game jam, but I’d prefer to know ahead of time whether this counts as “original assets”.
(For anyone wondering what I’m referring to, 's a link)
You can use them but they don’t count as original, since they’re sources from another place. We’ve mainly added the distinction to promote transparency in what has been created throughout the week and what is not, so we don’t want to discourage you from using them
Sorry, English is not my native language so sometimes it is hard to explain things.
Just read the last line, I think it makes the most sense, then look at the numbers again.
What does “count as original” matter? For the Eye Candy prize?
When does it become “original”, though? If you use, say, a Fuse model as a base mesh, but take it into ZBrush and make a new character, is that “original”, or is that “that team used pre-made assets”? What about just a static ZBrush base mesh? Seems like there’s a large gray area in the concept of “original”?
Not that I care all that much, as I’m treating the game jam as a mini-vacation and could care less if I win anything, but I’m still curious.
