Since I installed WINDOWS 10, I haven’t been able to open the unreal engine. I click on the Epic Games Launcher and it crashes, I’ve even reinstalled it but sadly the same result.
Has anyone had the same problem and found clear ways to fix this?

Hi MattStH,
Thank you for the report. We are currently investigating to see if this error is OS specific.
In the meantime, try the steps in this section of the troubleshooting guide.
If nothing works, make sure to follow the instructions here to generate your Debug Logs. Then post them here, along with a copy of your Dxdiag (system specs).
Hi thanks for getting back I have tried everything you mentioned but with the same results.
I have here all that you have asked being the debug logs and system specs attached.
I hope to hear back soon and that this issue can be resolved.
I have already the same issue… Is Epic developing a new launcher specifically for Windows 10. I’m not able to use my UE4 since my Window 10 update and the troubleshooting page didn’t help :s
In my case the Launcher didn’t crash, but I have this page: Error Unable to reach the Epic Servers at this time. Unfortunately I’m not behind a Proxy Server, and my Launcher is authorized by my defender firewall, anyways even with the firewall down, I have the same issue :s
i’ve had the same problem and have tried the trouble shooting as mentioned above has there been any progress on this?
Me too when i update to 4.8.3 with Windows 7 and now Windows 10
Hi I still haven’t had any progress with UNREAL 4 since installing Windows 10.
I have tried everything under the sun to get it working and everything that was recommended to me.
However since the release of Windows 10, there has been no improvement from what I’ve seen.
So hopefully there is a fix soon or some improvement, or I’ll just try using some other game engine and learning from scratch.
I have also checked SSL and TLS options, I done it before , and it keeps not loading…
With a clean install of UE4 since Windows 10 works again
OK all the matters are solved since I have use adwcleaner Oo … I’m now able to use Epic Games launcher UE4 and also Unity 5 witch I had the same connection problem… So try this!
Glad to hear you’re up and running Erikges.
That’s fantastic new RubiWorks. Glad you’re up and running. We’ve not seen any issues ourselves with needing to reinstall UE4 on an upgrade to Windows 10, but rest assured we’ll continue to look into a repro so we can fix this for other people who are upgrading.
Hey Guys,
I am experiencing the same problem. For me It did help to add the line -http=wininet to the target of the link itself.
However the launcher keeps crashing now and then while trying to connect to the epic servers. So nothing permanent, but you can at least work with it.
Hi Edregol,
That’s, um, interesting to hear. If you add -debuglogging to the command line for the Launcher, next time it crashes could you upload the log? please, thanks.
Andrew
Sure thing. Here is the log file.
Since you’ve asked I’ve payed closer attention to the behavior.
I can reproduce this issue at any given time actually.
I open a .uproject file. Some time after the engine has finished loading, the launcher, which was startet in the background when opening the .uproject file, shows me the following message:
Clicking the “retry” button, alwas brings me back to the same message. As soon as I click the “ok” button I’ll get a “please wait” message. If I have a look in the TaskManager the launcher.exe has become inactive and does not react anymore.
The launcher log gets stuck as well at a very specific point which I have marked within the file with four exclamation points at the timestamp [2015.08.12-10.37.35:311]
At that point I usually kill the task since it does not react. However if you give it enough time, like 30-60 seconds, you will be presented with the launcher login mask.
The log timestamp doesn’t seem to be accurate at that point since the entry I marked and the next one are sepereated by mereley miliseconds.
However the launcher does not excactly crash as originally stated, sorry for that.
That’s interesting, it seems like it’s having trouble with a particular URL, can you paste this into you browser and let us know what you see:
https://launcher-public-service-prod06.ol.epicgames.com/launcher/api/version
Also, if that works, please add the following to Users~yourusername~\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\Config\Windows\Engine.ini:
[Core.Log]
LogHttp=Verbose
LogOnline=Verbose
LogXmpp=VeryVerbose
Then could you try the same repro but running as Admin and let us know if that still causes the issue too (and post the new log). Some users have also reported a problem logging in at the moment (slightly different to yours, but worth a try).
Thanks
Andrew
Well then,
first things first.
The mentioned URL can be opened. https://launcher-public-service-prod06.ol.epicgames.com/launcher/api/version
While trying to run both the editor, as well as the launcher as admin I’ve noticed somethin interesting:
Running both normally will give me the result I’ve already described. However, the behavior changed a bit. The Launcher takes its time to show the “retry” button, but the time after clicking “Ok” diminished to a few seconds.
The launcher only takes so much time to load, if you where logged in previously. If thats not the case the retry button appears almost instantaneously. After that the previously entered login is gone until you start the launcher manually and enter your credentials.
Feels like a deleted cookie.
Marking the EpicGamesLauncher.exe (C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Binaries\Win64) as to be started as admin, results in the exe not being started when opening a .uproject file. A log file is not being created in that case.
Marking the UE4Editor.exe (C:\Program Files\Epic Games\4.8\Engine\Binaries\Win64) as to be started as admin results in the editor not being able to start:
A log file is not being created in that case either.
Setting the Windows 10 UAC to “never notify” aka. disabled didn’t change anything.
However if I start those files by hand, everything runs smoothly. It seems to be a problem wenn those files get executed remotely. If you know what I mean.
I’ve attached the log file with the verbose settings for the scenario without admin permissions.
MattStH,
When the Launcher crashes, before you dismiss the crash dialog, there should be a crash .dmp file in the same folder as the log. Please can you upload this too as your logs are cut off and don’t contain the crash information, thanks.
Also some people have reported a crash in Windows 10 due to Lavasoft webcompanion being installed and/or the presence of the dll/registry settings, more info can be found here
Andrew
00robinson, are you still having issues? If so please can you include debug logs and crash .dmp files, and a list of what solutions from other users you have tried, e.g. reinstall, lavasoft removal, etc, etc.
Thanks
Andrew
