Summary

Edit mode closes by itself a few milliseconds after being opened, while the edit key is still physically held down. The character is returned to the previously equipped weapon or pickaxe. Reproduces consistently, alone on a private Creative island, standing still or moving, on all four build piece types.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Load a private Creative island, alone, no other players.
  2. Build any structure (wall, floor, stair or cone).
  3. Aim at the structure and press the edit key.
  4. Keep the edit key held down without releasing it at any point.

Expected Result

Edit mode stays open and the tile selection grid remains visible for as long as the edit key is held down.

Observed Result

The tile selection grid appears for well under 100 ms, then edit mode exits on its own and the previously equipped weapon or pickaxe is re-equipped, while the edit key is still held down. An important clarification regarding this video: around the 40-second mark, it might look as though the “F” key is being pressed a second time. This is an editing artifact. I used CapCut’s “optical flow” feature to slow down that section; this feature generates interpolated frames that can create the impression that the key was pressed twice. In the original, unedited recording, the key is pressed only once and held down.

Additional Notes

This also happens in regular Battle Royale matches; the private Creative island is simply the cleanest environment to reproduce it. Already tested with no effect: Simple Edit disabled, Confirm Edit on Release tested both enabled and disabled, edit rebound to another key, controls reset to default, game files verified, no controller or secondary input device connected, all third-party overlays closed, different USB cable and a direct rear motherboard USB port. An on-screen keystroke overlay confirms the edit key stays held down throughout.
