I’m sure I have exported the textured model as an .e57 file before.
I’ve just created a model from drone footage, texturised it, and when I come to export it, there’s no .e57 option.
I’ve tried .xyz and several other of the options, but i can’t get a textured model into Twinmotion or any other software, am i doing something wrong, it has worked before.
Thanks
Hi Boycee41,
it was never possible to export model as E57 from RealityCapture: https://www.capturingreality.com/assets/Documents/datasheet_TARASQUE_1.2.pdf
E57 is used just as laser scan’s import format.
Do you have some kind of error during importing that model file? Which options have you tried?
Hi, thanks for responding.
I’m exporting as normal, as xyz file, there’s just no photo texturing applied when I open it in Twinmotion, or Cloud Compare, just the solid single coloured model.
I’ve not created a model for a fair few weeks, but I’m pretty sure I used the same procedure, and also followed the step by step aswell, but no textures.
I must have converted the xyz to e57 in Cloud Compare before.
Thanks
XYZ file format is just for point cloud, nor model as mesh.
Can you describe all your repro steps?
What do you mean by this: no photo texturing…just the solid single coloured model ?
Yes just the single colour model.
Added the drone footage folders with individual frames
Aligned the images
Created model in normal resolution
Textured the model
Exported dense mesh, and also via the file -Export option as .xyz
Thanks
Thank you,
just to be clear, this problem still remains?
The process you described is OK, but as I wrote, XYZ format is for point cloud, not meshed model.
So, exported model doesn’t have textures or colors? It textures, this is because of the chosen format, as point cloud doesn’t have textures, just colors.
Thanks, yes, tried .las files aswell, still no textures.
Checked the export textures box if required aswell.
What would be the best format to export the textured model ?
Thanks again
OBJ or FBX.
Next to your model in 1Ds view do you see Tx sign?
During export you need to set Yes for exporting textures.
On the list of images in 1DS window, the re is a blue grey box with Tx next to all of them, is it enabled when it’s blue, or disabled ?
Tx should be next to the model.
When it is new to the images, blue/grey means, that image is used for texturing.
When is is black then that image is not used for texturing.
If the model has texture, the Tx sign is next to model:
When you are exporting the model and want to export the textures you should set Yes for Export textures:
Yes, it has the Tx next to the model, and I am making sure the export textures is on Yes.
I’ve used a few models previously, and they imported into Twinmotion without issues, seems odd it’s just not working on this one
Is it possible to open that model in some other application? If so, are the textures there? Do you see the texture file next to exported model in the folder?
There is a .mtl file in the same folder as my exports.
Really need it to work directly in Twinmotion though, so probably have to use Cloud Compare or ReCap, both are just untextured models when I import any of the exported files.
Got me confused, I even tried re-installing to clear any settings I may have unknowingly changed, same result
This is strange. There should be also diffuse map (texture) and rcInfo file (with mtl file).
Can you make a video of your exporting process? Or is it possible to share your project with us?
There are the rcInfo, diffuse PNG, and the .mtl files alongside the model.
The previous Twinmotion project had a .pts file, and came in fully textured.
I’m pretty sure I saved out of Reality Capture as an .xyz file, and opened in ReCap, saved back out as .pts
As there is diffuse PNG then the texture was created. Is it a big model?
Maybe you just need to activate or turn on it in Twinmotion (like in CloudCompare there is this tool
According to Twinmotion import:
,there is no otion to import point cloud into Twinmotion.
But again, PTS is just point cloud file, so it doesn’t have textures, just colors.
The .fbx file has imported into Twinmotion textured, but not the best quality texture.
I imported as 3d geometry, rather than point cloud, there is an option in TM, for .xyz, .las, .laz, .txt, .pts and .e57 files.
I’ll try some other import formats, see what works, thanks
OK, I didn’t notice the point cloud option. But now I see it.
In RC does the texture look good? You can check the quality of the texture also there. What were your texture settings?
