dynamic shadows look fine in distance and disappear close to player

Hey all, I’m pretty new to UE and I’ve been playing with the UE5 beta lately. I don’t know if this is a general thing, or specific to UE5 so I figured I’d try here first.

In my scene I’ve got a main light acting as the outdoor/sunlight, and when indoors it’s appropriately casting shadows from the ceiling onto the interior scene, so everything is dark.

The problem is when I get very close with the FPS template character, or the editor camera the shadow from that light gets culled and i end up with a radius of sunlight on anything immediately next to me.

I’ve tried adjusting various shadow and clipping settings and nothing seems to help.

You can see the effect on this small section of a character shield that should be completely in shadow.
