DX11 Pegs out GPU Stats in Task Manager. DX12 looks normal

UE 5.1
All default render settings (started from a empty template).
This is on a nVidia RTX A4500

I have a question around DX11 vs DX12. I needed to change my project settings to use DX11 vs. DX12. However, I noticed that when I did, the OS was reporting that the GPU was now at 99% Utilization.

I made no changes at all to the UE game/app… Only change was project settings, changing from one DX version to another.

Does this indicate that I also need to change other settings with the app so that DX11 performs better?

When I run the app, the app itself does not seem to perform any better or worse when changing between the two DX version.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.


your gpu might be going into power saving mode. you can disable it in the Nvida Control Panel

Can it do that if I am active on the computer? You know, poking around UE, etc…

im not sure but you said the app performs the same, so my first thought was power saving mode
