Duplicating items using DDoS attacks

It’s exactly the same for me and many other maps.

It’s great that they’ve implemented good anti-cheat and given us nice updates, but DDoS attacks are still much worse than cheating, especially since they affect all modes.

Same issue on my map. You can see the sudden spikes and drops in the graph. The server becomes unstable even when the map is running fine.

This happens during DDoS attacks, not during normal gameplay.

  • First DDoS attack at 9:30 AM
  • Second DDoS attack at 12:20 PM
  • Third attack at 3:40 PM
  • Fourth attack at 6:30 PM
  • Fifth attack at 8:50 PM
And the day isn’t over yet… they keep coming back again and again with fake accounts
    Please…

Every week I see hundreds of DDoS attacks just on my map, so I can’t even imagine what it’s like on other maps and in battle royale; it’s becoming very critical.

@flak Yes, the creator who commented above me is right. I’ve also heard quite a few rumors that the repeated attacks on my island are linked to other creators who want to “sink” my world. They even come and tell my players, “Leave here, it’s buggy and come to us instead.” I’m almost certain the attacks are coming from them… but I can’t prove it.

You should absolutely still report them so the team can investigate.

@flak I repeat, we proceed systematically, and while bans do sometimes occur, they remain rare. Identifying the responsible players is very difficult because the attacks originate from external IP addresses. Knowing the port and IP address of the Fortnite server is enough to launch an attack by sending a large number of packets to the targeted IP address.

Many of these malicious players use usernames containing the word “ddos.” It’s enough to trace these players and see the matchmaking status immediately afterward, even though they aren’t the only ones exploiting this vulnerability.

Numerous services exist to prevent these attacks; Epic Games, for example, uses Cloudflare.

Many games are now protected against DDoS attacks.

It is therefore urgent to resolve this problem as quickly as possible.

The ban system is ineffective, and it is therefore urgent to have better protected servers with a new architecture

How do you deal with it when they have 46 accounts and a VPN?
Some players have been harassing us for months… during the day they show up about once every hour… and my map is slowly dying, because nobody wants to play on a map that’s constantly bugging due to malicious users.

It’s the same on my side: I encourage players to report anyone who is cheating on Fortnite maps. Despite prevention messages, this has been going on for weeks, if not longer, and it’s becoming a real problem for both us and you.

“Report the player” is not a realistic mitigation for this issue.

For example, if 4 attackers are in one session and all of them are playing normally, how is the creator supposed to identify them? My island can have around 40 live sessions at the same time, with up to 40 players in each session. That means hundreds or even thousands of possible players, while creators have no server/network telemetry.

This is why individual player reports are not enough. Suspected DDoS/lag abuse needs server side detection and mitigation from Epic.

@flak Something absolutely has to be done; this can’t go on any longer. Reporting players is ineffective because, again, these are external attacks targeting the server’s IP address. I could show you hours of recordings; with all the DDoS attacks we’re experiencing.

@Flak And to prove to you once again that reporting is useless, look at the number of accounts using the username “Azurox,” one of the main players harassing us with DDoS attacks and who also sells DDoS panels to attack your servers to other people.

And believe me, I’m one of the many patient creators, because this situation has been going on for quite some time now, and between the voice bug that makes in-game voice chat unusable and the massive DDoS attacks, Fortnite isn’t currently an interesting game for creating new maps, and it just makes you want to go develop elsewhere.

@flak Honestly, when are DDoS attacks finally going to be taken seriously?

I posted a message that got over 91 likes because map creators are fed up, and it was flagged as a duplicate. As for the official announcement, we’re still waiting for a response from Epic Games, but nothing.

It’s good that Epic Games is offering new features and anti-cheat measures, but DDoS attacks are far worse than cheating.

At the last Creator Success Manager conference, we were asked what would motivate us to create more maps. Well, currently, with the security vulnerabilities, Fortnite isn’t an interesting game for map creation, and it makes you want to develop elsewhere.

Furthermore, there are other critical bugs that keep recurring, like the inability to speak in-game due to the voice chat bug. Epic Games is losing our trust in its reliability.

Since my last message here, after they saw it, they’ve become even more aggressive. Just 20 minutes after I posted it here (about 4 hours ago), they started attacking nonstop, and they’re still here 4 hours later.

We are dealing with extremely persistent people who are not here to play your game — they only come to destroy it.

Please ban their IPs, or give us a way to IP ban accounts from our maps. Please help us.
