Drop in texture quality

Hi :o
I have tried to create a simple map, however i have a few problems with my lighting and texturing.
The funny thing is it seemed to work in the beginning casting shadows, showing good textures on a huge area with lot of buildings on.
I don’t believe i have fiddled with any settings, or deleted anything of importance. However i must have done something wrong along the way, so here goes

Problem 1.
I have created some buildings with high resolution textures, and when i play around in the editor they all look pretty sharp, however as soon as i enter “Play” mode, the texture turn to an extremely bad quality, unless i stand right next to them (as in closer than 1 game meter).

Problem 2.
Also when i build my lighting, no shadows appear from the buildings, or anything else for that matter.

Problem 3.
When i make my buildings highrise-like, i get following warning when building lights:
“Performance Warning Highrise_790 Large actor receives a pre-shadow and will cause an extreme performance hit unless bCastDynamicShadow is set to false.”
I can’t seem to find “bCastDynamicShadow” - does anyone know where to find it?

Problem 1 and 2 occurs with no regards to whether the highrise is 1 or 100 metres high.

Any one got an idea to what might be the solution to the problems?

“Update”
It also shows the jagged textures in my other projects when i enter play mode.

  1. this is due to LOD, and exactly lod settings in texture. Select texture, go into its editor and play with lod settings. >In TEXTURE in content browser.<

  2. you did something wrong in light settings, find tutorial and follow, or show your light setup, its hard to guess

  3. dynamic shadows are in properties of that mesh instance placed into level. Select it in level and find light setup tab in defaults.

Real solution is either what you just did (ie asked here), digging those things yourself, or watching tutorials.
Unreal is huge and complicated engine do not give up, looking for solutions to such problems will get easier and easier.

LOL - Never mind. The engine was apparently turned down to minimal settings. Setting them back up fixed it all
Never mind my chatting with myself - Problem solved :stuck_out_tongue:

However your tips seems to be useful nevertheless. Thank you for your answer Nawrot

@Fjordhoj - Can you tell me what settings you changed? I am encountering the same problems, both with LOD’s for meshes, and with textures. I just upgraded from 4.17 to 4.25.
