dk2 with UE4 version 4.10 on win 7

play>VRpreview is greyed out:

  1. the oculus is on
  2. i tried it with the display mode set to both ‘direct HMD access from apps’, and ‘extend desktop to the HMD’
  3. all UE4 plugins for the oculus are on
  4. i’m running oculus_runtime_sdk_0.6.0.0_win, and came across a UE4 thread to run OVR 0.7.0 which i downloaded and ran, but it gave me a ‘can’t initialize’ error

what am i missing?

thanks

Update your runtime to the latest 0.8 then it should work.
Things to check:

  • Are you working on a desktop or laptop? Does your GPU support direct mode? Mobile versions, f.e. the GTX970m, do do support this.
  • Does the ‘demo scene’ with the config utility work?

thanks! i’m working on a laptop. my gpu is nvidia quadro K3100M 4 GB. the ‘demo scene’ in config works fine. i’ll check the gpu specs and try 0.8

installing 0.8 runtime fixed the UE4>play>VRpreview being greyed out, but when the window pops up on screen it is black. i get the health disclaimer warning in my oculus goggles though, but everything is black there too. i’m guessing it’s my gpu (nvidia quadro K3100M 4 GB - i updated to the latest driver as well), but would be happy to get anything working as i’m just testing out unreal and VR and don’t need peak performance - anything will do really. this was a souped up machine for graphics ie. maya, after effects etc, but for VR it’s another story
