Distance Field Ambient Occlusion in VR never worked ?

I’m wondering if this feature was ever working ? In the editor I can see distance field indirect shadows but when I enter VR preview mode I don’t see any shadows besides the ones caused by the main light.

Also the official documentation doesn’t say anything about VR limitations

Since Lumen is still way too slow for VR I have to ask, what are studios using for dynamic indirect shadows in VR ? Is it all baked lighting and simple volumetric lightmaps ?
