I was reading the documentation page for Detail Textures, and I noticed there’s a tutorial for “distanced based detail textures”, but it only works for the manually created detail texture, not the simplified detail texture material function.
Page in question:
In other words, the detail texture material function does not appear to do distance based fading, which would indicate to me that it’s limited. The page does not mention any benefits to using this material function (other than it being quick), but rather lists possible negatives (performance / memory concerns).
If in the very same tutorial, there are tutorials for doing the same exact thing, but better with more control, then why even advocate a simplified material function without providing any reasons for doing so? Just curious.
Thanks,
