Displacement settings - tesselation effect

Hi ladies and gentlemen – just getting started here… so many questions.

I have imported a Quixel Megascans material with displacement.

Problem 1 - I can’t seem to get the surface tesselated enough.

I would assume near and far tesselation would indicate how many subdivisions the surface would get depending on distance, but it appears instead to be a multiplication of the displacement value, as the subdivision is unchanged no matter the value:

Problem 2 - trying to copy the material to a different project, and now neither texture is working and I have no acces to the material settings. The old material is now a “material instance”, which I suppose is why I can’t change it, but I can’t even copy it to a new material I can change.

Even when I create a new material, the tesselation and material options overall are completely different, as if they were two different types of material:

Thanks,
