Discovery is broken

I appreciate that Epic is looking into the issue and it “needs triage”, however creators have been screaming about this for months on this forum and Epic has been mostly silent on the issue. Creators have shown example after example. It got so bad that the spammers were even mocking the system in plain view on this forum. Two different posts have discussed this issue in depth. My last count on these two posts Epic replied 3 times.

This is a two way street. Epic you need the creators as much as we need you. Your constant non-communication on large issues is really unacceptable.

Epic has chosen to highlight certain maps forever and give them non-stop exposure for 3+ years. You have made a business decision that you feel is good for the the long term stability of the community. I get that, I do. I am not sure I agree with it, but you have your reasons. But, allowing this spam map issue to go on unchecked for months and finally now say “hey yeah we might have a problem” is really shortsighted. This should have been fixed permanently last year, either with programming or the ban hammer. If you don’t have the technical ability to fix it, start banning creators and the issue solves itself.

This community has offered countless suggestions and you ignore us and those suggestions. The top 250 creators get a relationship manager to help them. The bottom 99.9% get nothing. How about selecting 15 or so good quality creators that have been around a while that have had marginal success, but are creating high quality maps and start listening to them in a group setting once a month or so. The community has a broad group of backgrounds. You can draw from the experiences of some of those people. I myself have been programming in the business world for 30+ years and have been a gamer my entire life and entered the UEFN space at launch. My UEFN partner is a 30+ year graphic designer with broad business experiences. There are many other creators in this space that have diverse backgrounds that have a lot to offer. But you have to be willing to listen to us.

This post has 190+ comments and 170+ votes. Epic replied in October about a fix they were putting in place, that marginally improved the issue. Since then nothing.

I’m experiencing the same. Over the past few publishes, my maps haven’t been entering Discovery the way they previously did, even after the usual few-day window.

I recently shipped a significant update focused specifically on improving early retention and session quality, and all of my projects use fairly robust Verse systems. The performance shift feels sudden compared to prior releases.

Map codes: 0127-3809-2311 and 8311-5780-2791

Edit: Also Thanks a lot for your help Flak

Any luck yet? Still nothing for me. I have a new map to release and I’m too nervous to release because of this sigh.

Its unfortunate but at this point.. Realistically.. I would just forget Discovery exists like I have. We don’t have the manpower to bring enough attention to this or compete against spam that is also leveraging bots. Players don’t care this is going on, so, epic turns their head and ignores it. This is not the worst of the issues, there is far more disgusting things going on than spam.

Yes, everything is against you, search is only getting worse removing you from results, titles are now being controlled like some own them or something. But reality is, without discovery, without exposure, without search.. If you can get players, then players had to dig to find it, its a niche players are looking for, not just more “content” that brings nothing new to the table.

Buy your exposure, find your “connections”, it doesn’t change these facts.

You know what kinda breaks my mind someone reacted with the title director product discovery i was kinda shocked there was actually someone assigned to discovery new experience tab has been stuck for atleast 3 weeks now, the spamaccounts seems to be the same ones doing it and none have been removed, all collaborations getting abused by spam maps seems to be ok

Its like the creators are the only ones who cares about the state of discovery,

This is getting out of control. Ten days have passed and we haven’t heard anything. The spammers are still taking up space and aren’t being banned. It doesn’t seem right, and at the end of the month they’ll get paid for scamming people.

this thread isn’t even searchable on the forums anymore. its just us speaking to ourselves. they not only allow this stuff, they make sure it continues.

This is incredibly depressing and disappointing.

@Flak im sorry to tag you but to be honest you seem to be the only one responding,in the statement joey director discovery made he promised a threat for us to follow in a week it been two weeks without one or i just cant find it anywhere and discovery is still without any improvements, it still are the same accounts doing it without bans, i understand big creators/scammers are linked to it, but does this ecosystem really need these abusers

Dang, haven’t been in discover since early Jan, only thing left to do now is improve the thumbnails and UI and hope for the best.

I really want this to be fixed
creators spend a lot of time on this and in Eton their islands are not even visible against the background of spam
