Discover: Homebar not rotating correctly

Summary

Since mid-February, the Homebar in Discover has not rotated properly (specifically the last 6 islands). The overhaul to Discover changed all other Discover rows but the Homebar was not changed, thus still being broken. It appears to be showing islands with the highest number of impressions, which is causing an infinite loop since the Homebar gives a high number of impressions.

Steps to Reproduce

Observe the Homebar row in Discover daily.

Expected Result

The Homebar cycles through islands as it did prior to mid-February.

Observed Result

The same few islands are shown each day in the same order, resetting at about 8-9pm ET every day.

The status of FORT-1096514 changed to ‘Needs Triage’. We’ve confirmed the issue and it’s waiting to be assigned to someone to fix it.

Extra notes:

  • Popular islands do not show in the homebar either, due to hitting the impression limit instantly due to their existing player base
  • This bug is extremely severe as it mostly is showing low-metric islands. Islands with high retention rates hold onto more players after hitting the Homebar, then hit the impression limit and hardly ever appear again. On the other hand, the same low-retention islands are shown over and over again in the Homebar by gaining a lot of impressions and staying in the infinite loop. The same order repeats every day, resetting at around 8-9pm ET.
