Differences between compression types?

Hello,

I wasn’t able to find anything regarding differences between texture compression types.
I would be very happy to be directed to somewhere where it’s all explained in details.
Meanwhile, what are the advantages/disadvantages of *Masks *compression vs. DXT1?
