Hello! I have a recurring problem when using photogrammetry for creating 3D assets, I think that the problem is caused by shadows changing when taking pictures, but I would like to ask to the community to be sure about this problem and how to avoid it in the future.
This a model affected by this problem: San Lorenzo 2 - Download Free 3D model by andxet [266962d] - Sketchfab you can see a depression on the outside of the castle near the tree.
I’m creating a new model in a basement where is very difficult to place lights without getting shadows. In the last session I got this problem at the base of one of the lights and in a dark gap. Can be a solution move the lights around while taking pictures or it will make the problem worse? Any suggestions?
Hello @andxet
This looks like two separated data were used for model creation. Is that possible? What kind of source data have you used? This could be happening when the shadows moved/changed too much during capturing. Therefore it is recommended to capture the outside areas during cloudy days.
This can be also probably solved by using control points in the affected areas.
Shadows in the basement can be really problematic and the best option is to avoid them.
With the moving lights, you can try to take images from the static position and then combine the lighted images into one. But this could be quite time consuming.
