Deleting a .uasset right after the Editor starts takes forever

We’re having an interesting issue when deleting an asset after the editor starts-up. The first time we try to delete an asset after the Editor starts-up (even if the Editor has been opened for a while), it locks-up the Editor for a good 2~3 minutes minimum, sometimes more. Then after that, deleting assets is back to normal, almost instant, as long as the Editor is running.

This is happening for everyone on the team whenever they delete an asset for the first time after a fresh Editor start. It seems to be getting worse with time. We do have a large project, but this wasn’t an issue until recently (we’ve started noticing it a few months ago maybe).

Any idea what could be causing this? It’s not a huge issue, but we would still like to understand it

Hi,

I cannot reproduce with my 4.27+ stream and ShooterGame, but ShooterGame is tiny, so it doesn’t prove anything. In my search, I found a report about SVN source control being an issue. Which source control are you using? Other than that, I don’t know, 4.27 is old. I would suggest looking or sharing your Editor logs. This will likely give some clues to start with. Visual Studio also has a free sampling profiler you can try. VS -> Debug -> Performance Profiler. You should be able to profile and find where it hangs. Personnally, when something hangs that long, I just start the application in the debugger, get to the hang, then hit ‘Break All’ (the ‘Pause’ button in VS) to break the execution. Then I open the ‘Parallel Stacks’ window and look at the game/main thread callstack and check what it’s doing.

Regards,

Patrick

Hey Patrick, thanks for the reply. We are using Perforce as our source control.

I will try what you suggested with VS and see if I can figure something out. We will soon move to UE5 so I don’t want to spend too much time on this anyways

Have a good day
