Daydream motion controller not interacting with pawn's widget components

I am developing for Google Daydream and the 3DoF controller. I have been able to create UMG widgets as separate actors and then use the motion controller to navigate their user interface, hovering and clicking on buttons as expected. However, if I add a widget to my pawn as a widget component so that it tracks with the VR camera, I cannot hover or click on any buttons. Anyone have any advice on this?
