Custom physic vehicle simulation! Project download included

Hey! First of all thank you for this project, i found your development videos on Youtube and it looks really good compared to the default simulation in UE4. One minor issue is that every time i try to open the vehicle blueprint, it freezes the engine, probably due to the automotive materials, which my PC seem to have some problem with. Is it possible to include a version of the vehicle with no materials on it? Or can I edit the blueprint with a text editor to disable these very resource intensive materials?

hmmm I suppose you could dimply delete the automautive material folder and then open the skeletal mesh. Wich would remove all materials from it and then it would stop crashing. If it does not work then I will upload it again without the materials.

Oh my godā€¦ Thinked about everything, but the most obvious! After deleting the folder it loads in instantly, thanks :slight_smile:

PS: I know 13 minutes is long, but please watch the whole video carefully since every step, no matter of stupid it may look, is crucial. And I will not answer questions to wich you would know the answer if only you watched the video! (Yes I do get alot of questions from people who do not even bother to watch the entire video)

Did you do a Network profiler with a few of these vehicles in 1 map?

Iā€™ve downloaded this project but I donā€™t know were to go to open it on unreal engine 4, I have version 4.16 could that be it or am I doing something wrong?

I have no idea how to actually do that. I am fairly new to anything network related, will check that out. In the meantime you can do it if you want and let me know about the results :stuck_out_tongue:

welcome to the comunity! and to open the project you gotta double-click the ā€œBP_PVehicles.uprojectā€ file. Only after you opened it once like that, it will show-up in the launcher. Have fun! Also dont drink and drive!

My bad I didnā€™t download WinRAR so I couldnā€™t extract the files. The project loads fine no problems but when I view the project anything I click on, it just freezes UE4 and I have to keep restarting UE4 and the project, why though? also when I open up the project all the folders are there but when I press play thereā€™s nothing except for a floor, was it suppose to be like that?

whereā€™s that ragdoll feature that i saw in a short livestream a little while back?

I played around with the earlier versions and liked it very much, do you have a video or could you give a quick hint what values to look at in the current release to adjust the following?

  • speed (is it ā€œspeedā€ in the setup for the highest Gear, or also something else ?)
  • acceleration (I assume itā€™s ā€œAcceleration_Curveā€? How do the x,y values translate? RPM rise/fall?)
  • steering sensitivity (is there a steering curve, or do I use ā€œSteering Rise/Fall Speedā€?)
  • any other important modifiers to change handling (e.g. how would you approach different setups for a small sedan vs a muscle car)?

PS: do you develop with primarily KB+M or a controller in mind?

I develop with mouse and keyboard because it is what I have. speed is set for each gear for much less complicated setup. acceleration is a multiplier it will always be from 0 to 1, you can only change the shape of the curve. steering sensitivity is steering rise and fall float value.

version 2.4 available for download. Including ā€œbrake as reverseā€ function and a ā€œsmart throttleā€ that prevent over-spinning of the wheels, both of wich can be disable if you want. Alos fixed the anti-drift not working.

a friend of mine has been bugging for months about a Math_B on youtube who does a lot with vehicles, so i guess its time to try things out, i know promised before but life gets in the way :slight_smile:

yay! just realised that the physic pawn was acting weird in the last release, uploading a hotfix now.

Math, add deformation for epic crash! :cool:
