Curious about Hand poses.

I was wondering how people are doing there hand poses.
I know its relatively straight forwards to do poses in the default vr hands or any separate hand mesh because you are only dealing with a single mesh and its easy to work with and pose the grip around a preview mesh of each held actor.
I have done this myself, But I was wondering how those of us that are implementing full body character NOT! with separate hands are doing there hand pose stuff as working on a full skeleton and having to do a pose for each hand is a lot more difficult , at least I have found so.
If anyone has a nice method I would like to hear them just to see if I could possibly improve my own
