Additional Notes
This issue seems to be related to the number of players in the session. It does not occur in smaller lobbies. The problem significantly affects communication and gameplay when playing in large player maps.
This issue mainly affects Roleplay (RP) maps, where proximity voice chat is essential to gameplay.
Since July, this is the third occurrence of malfunctions related to voice channels, indicating recurring instability.
Roleplay holds an important place in the French-speaking community, with significant presence in France despite having less weight internationally. For us French-speaking creators, proximity voice chat is a fundamental pillar of our creative approach.
As it stands, this bug makes my experiences—and those of my peers—difficult to use, if not completely inoperable.
A priority response and a long-term fix are necessary.
On behalf of the entire French RP community, thank you for taking this issue into account.
Just adding to this because it’s definitely not just a “Large Match” issue.
I run “Mic Up” (the biggest proximity chat map), and our lobbies are strictly capped at 16 players. Since v40.00, the audio cuts out constantly for us too.
This isn’t new.. proximity chat broke once before in July 2025 after the v36.20 update. Epic fixed it in v37.10. Now it’s broken again after v40.00 with the exact same symptoms. You can see both drops in my player graph.
Because our entire game relies on people talking, our concurrent player count dropped 60% the exact day the update hit.
If the QA team needs a small 16-player lobby that heavily stresses the voice chat to test a fix, please use my island code 6462-6469-4435.
I confirm, I have the same problem; my players are angry because no proper communication can take place. Really, I am slowly starting to feel helpless, moving from one problem to the next. We also have a life, but mine is currently only here, in Creative mode, checking what I can fix myself and responding to messages from players who are angry and sometimes show no understanding that it is not the Creator’s fault. I also want to point out that we ALL suffer massive losses—players and payments.
And honestly, how are we as creators supposed to keep handling all of this? We’ve spent so much time fighting for our players, putting in the work to build communities from the ground up — and right now it feels like all of that is being torn apart by ongoing bugs. This isn’t just frustrating, it’s exhausting.
@Flak
This problem has been reported by many creators for several months now, yet no concrete fix has been provided. Even worse, with each update, the situation seems to deteriorate further, introducing new issues while previous ones remain unresolved.
This ongoing situation is creating constant stress for creators. We invest significant time and effort into building experiences, but the lack of stability and unresolved bugs make it increasingly difficult to maintain quality and reliability for players.
It’s becoming very frustrating, as these issues directly impact both the player experience and our ability to work effectively.
Could we please get an update on this issue, or at least some visibility on a potential fix?
Can this bug be taken more seriously? It’s an important core mechanic for UEFN maps.
We’ve literally lost 80% of our player base because of this bug, that’s how serious it is. There hasn’t been a single update about this issue in almost a month.
Just so you can see the situation from another perspective: on September 27, 2025, there was an update in Fortnite. That update caused proximity chat to stop working for a small group of creators — not for islands, but for the creators themselves. No matter how much you enabled proximity chat on any of your islands, the moment you published the map, it stopped working.
I was one of the affected creators. I spent months reporting the bug and nobody fixed it. My map went from having 150 concurrent players every single day to having 0 because of this issue. On March 19, they finally fixed the bug after so many months. A few weeks later, news came out saying that Epic Games was ignoring bug reports because they were considered “low priority” while they focused on fixing other things.
Ever since they fixed the chat on my island, it still hasn’t worked properly on any map. Honestly, I don’t understand how it’s so difficult to properly fix and polish something as simple as proximity chat and then just leave it alone instead of constantly breaking it again. It’s a basic feature that allows players to connect with each other in a different way than usual.
If it were some random device that barely anyone uses, then I could partly understand it. But this is the game’s voice chat. Very few things are as important as communication in Fortnite. You really need to step up your game for the good of the game itself.
