Hi @Seymour thanks for bringing this up. We’ve been making changes recently to memory calculations and 24.10 should have actually made the calculations more accurate. After talking with the team here’s what is recommended:
You should inspect your island and look for an area where thermometer would show a value over 100k … we can’t confirm if its a bug especially since there were 15hrs between both tests. We fixed issues with the thermometer in 24.10 so I would trust the current test more than the previous.
Thanks!
I ran over 10 memory calculations yesterday and the average was around 100k. No significant changes were made to my project during the time gap. This is definitely due to the changes made in the update, though I wouldn’t call it an improvement.
Changes like this are very critical to large projects and I really wish this was prioritised much sooner as I have been working around the old memory system for months. I appreciate the clarification though.

…seems like if those fixes can feasibly result in a 30%-50% swing in available memory for some users (even if it was technically over budget before) and make many islands no longer functional, it would be worth calling out what changed in the fixes. That’s a big swing.
For me, memory calculations went from 2+ hours to 5 minutes or less. INSANE improvement, thanks so much.
Memory calculations do seem more accurate now but unfortunately we are over budget by 10%. For us to tackle this overhead it would be absolutely necessary to have info on which props are impacting each cell, currently we do not know or are guessing on where to make improvements.
@Seymour if you’re curious about what assets are causing the biggest memory impact you can go to your message log:
and then go to Memory Test Results
Thank you for this. I have been playing around with memory all day but even after deleting my largest assets the surrounding area is not affected by anywhere close to the memory unit listed in the log. In some cases the memory becomes higher after deleting assets.
I’m still trying to figure this out but it seems memory is still not very accurate.
