Creative Matchmaking Sub-Region Issue: Austria forced to London instead of Frankfurt in Creative

Summary

My matchmaking in Fortnite Creative / UEFN is permanently routing me to London with ~30ms+ ping, even when starting private sessions.

Location & ISP: Austria

Ranked / Reload Ping: ~17ms (Frankfurt)

Creative Ping: ~35ms+ (London)

Details:

Since Ranked/BR routes perfectly to Frankfurt, my local connection is fine. It appears my IP block is incorrectly mapped to eu-west-2? specifically in the Creative matchmaking system. Standard support advised to file a report here as they cannot route this to the network engineering team directly.

Please check the sub-region routing table for Austria (A1 Telekom Austria) / EU-Central on Creative instances.

Matchmaking

Steps to Reproduce

Launch Fortnite from a location in Austria (using an Austrian ISP IP block from A1 Telekom Austria).

Set Matchmaking Region to Europe in the Game Settings.

Join any Ranked or Battle Royale match → Result: Successfully connects to Frankfurt (eu-central-1) with ~17ms ping.

Leave the match and launch any Creative / UEFN map (e.g., a private Creative map or popular practice map).

Open Net Debug Stats ingame and check the connected server instance.

Observed Result: Player is routed to London (eu-west-2) with ~35ms+ ping instead of the closer eu-central-1 server.

Expected Result

Creative / UEFN matchmaking should automatically route the connection to the closest EU Central server in Frankfurt (eu-central-1) with my ~17ms ping, matching the routing of Battle Royale and Ranked modes.

Observed Result

The player from Austria with A1 Telekom Austria IP Block is ALLWAYS forcibly routed to London (eu-west-2) in Creative / UEFN modes with ~30ms+ ping, despite having ~17ms to Frankfurt (eu-central-1) in Battle Royale and Ranked.

Additional Notes

Standard Epic Support verified my local connection is fine (Ranked routes to Frankfurt at 17ms) and advised me to post this issue here for the Network Engineering / Live Ops team. My ISP IP range seems to be misattributed to eu-west-2 exclusively for Creative instances.

hi @LegitOrQuitDOGS

This is Amazon Web Services Servers the problem not the ISP problem and myself living 25 miles in London still get a 30 ms ping from london, so getting that in Austria is good.

Often my setting is North America (NA) East servers as there are far fewer Matchmaking errors from NA servers that European servers.

Welcome to the real world!

Greetings from London England

Thanks for the reply, but this is a routing issue specific to Creative vs. BR instances.

In Battle Royale / Ranked, my connection routes directly to Frankfurt with 17ms (when the lobby is on Frankfurt servers). Only Creative mode ALWAYS forces the routing to London (~30ms+), even in my private lobbies, effectively doubling my latency. I know that servers vary, but Creative strictly ignores Frankfurt for me and always routes me to London.

Standard Epic Support specifically instructed me to report this routing mismatch here so the network live-ops team can review the sub-region assignment for A1 Telekom Austria users.

Still, this is a forum meant for UEFN/FNC related bugs and issues in the toolset, not playing creative maps.

Thanks for the note. Since latency and sub-region matchmaking in Creative/UEFN directly affect testing and playing islands, this is the most accurate place to log this as a matchmaking bug.

The issue is specific: Ranked/BR correctly routes to Frankfurt, whereas Creative instances consistently force a connection to London for this ISP range (A1 Telekom Austria). Logging it here is the best way to get it on the team’s radar.
