creating skeleton mesh

I need to create a skeletal mesh for my robotic arm so that i can use kinematics on it in the animation phase and i dont know how to go about this. is there an easy way to do this in game or is it better to do it in a separate program such as blender.
Also, how do you constrain these joints. for example, the bottom joint only can rotate around the fixture on the floor.

PS. this arm is considered my playable character if that is important. also, it was created in fusion360

Hey @mmartin139!

So most prefer to create their skeletal meshes in another program and import to UE5, and then edit in UE5 if it needs any editing. I don’t think it’s even possible to create a new skeleton from scratch in UE5, I only know you can download a basic skeleton from the asset store for free. In this case, it may be wise to use your 3D modeling software of choice
