creating buttons to change materilas in game

We are looking for a step by step description of how to create 2 buttons (2 different materials) and then use those buttons to change materials on one object. We have been been trying this :

but we can’t get it to work (we are newbies)…
Does someone have a true step by step tutorial or maybe an example file for this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
