Creating an outline effect like the one in the docs?

I want an outline effect similar to the one below, where the outline is black on white and white on black, but I’m not sure how to do it as I’m pretty stupid when it comes to authoring materials and shaders.

This kid of effect in UE4 requires a post-process material, which gets applied not to the object in the scene, but instead to the camera, world, or to a post-process volume. That looks like a sobel edge filter. If you search the forums, there are a couple of versions of that floating around.

The easiest way to get something like that is to buy Tom Shannon’s Post Process Filter Pack Vol. 1 from the Marketplace:

It’s really well-done and well-documented and well worth the price.

That’s the problem. I’ve been searching all over the forums and AnswerHub, but I haven’t found anything and I’d love to by Tom Shannon’s post process pack, but I have no money. This is why I decided to post a thread here. :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s a link to create a cell-shade effect, can’t quite remember where I got the material set-up from.

With the white areas, the way I would probably do it is via another material with the base colour being white (or whatever you choose, could be pink, green, blue…etc)
