Browsing FXGuide, came across some great art which shows some realistic eyes in UE4. It states they blend the space between sclera and lower eyelid with geometry. I’ve tried translucent materials with parallax offsets and whatnot, but it doesn’t work as intended. Any ideas on getting this blend?
Word up, apparently this can be achieved with a Depth Fade node. I’ll give it a shot.
Have you ever got this to work? I’m trying to get the water line around that same area (between the sclera and the lower eyelid), but no luck. I;ve tried “glass” materials but they end up reflecting the the whole sky at oblique angles.
I think I figured out the trick. But I still need to work on it.
Basically you need to have a lightly coloured eyelid, and then that piece of geometry which follows the contour of the eye shares the same colour as the lid. It also helps if the eyes aren’t pure white, and are either cream or very slightly red (contrary to my image).
A good way of testing this is have no depth fade, and just use the geometry on its own. If it blends well, you’re on the right track.
Thanks for sharing, btw how do you share the same colour as the lid, could you put your shader here ?
Looks awesome, hella nice results.
Epic did a talk on their eye shading at Siggraph/GDC this year, where IIRC they did talk about doing this. Can’t for the life of me find the link right now though…
