Convert lightmaps to vertex color?


Is it possible to convert lightmaps to vertex colors? My goal is to convert the AO lightmass bake as a vertex color for a dynamic day/night cycle. Here is a simple unlit example with a base speedtree tree in 3ds max:


Lightmass used to support vertex lightmaps so you could resurrect that code. It samples lighting over the faces of the triangles sharing a vertex to get better results.
