Controller functionality and gameplay

Summary

Bugs on controller for PC Version of the Game and improvements (Xbox one Pro controllers):

  • Menuing is difficult because thumbstick drift and the lack of ability to use thumb pad in menus as well as in-game menus (primarily inventory and end-game menu)

  • inputs get stuck and cannot be canceled (This mostly happens during sliding)

  • Quick edit takes longer than editing in normal edit mode (edit time should be changeable in comparison to the setting for editing in normal edit mode)

  • Aim assist is overtuned (a setting for editing the amount of aim assist from 0 - 10 should be made available with 0 being no aim assist and 10 being standard aim assist )

[side note] It seems that controller players get left behind season after season. Please ensure that they can keep up with Mouse and Keyboard players or consider separating the lobbies in accordance with player preferred input.

Bugs,Glitches and in-game improvements:

  • Mantling needs to be fine-tuned so that it is collision based and not proximity based. (This correction should make for a better and smoother gameplay experience as opposed to how the system works currently where the player mantles before even being in range for the mantle)
    [side note]: It would be interesting to see how mantling would work if the system was similar to the one in the Prototype series of games where the play holds 1 button and the game automatically mantles for the player along the path of movement. This could also be linked to the players stamina bar.

  • Mantling animations need to be speed up. (The current speed of mantling animations disrupts the flow of combat causing the player to become an all too easy target for opposing players. The game should be based on tactical, strategic play, not cheap lackluster gameplay issues that are unresolved or unimproved. Players should have to outclass one another not use glitches and bugs to gain the upper hand.)
    [side note] This animation speed also applies to other in-game character animation outside of Mantling.

  • Building needs to be overhauled. Currently builds go through the ground, other builds and objects. Builds should wrap around objects and geometry (just like text wrapping around pictures and inserts in a typing app) for smother, better building and gameplay.
    [Side note] it would be nice to see the build grid so one can know exactly the angle and orientation at which a build will be according to the gride and not just the current build piece selected. Also turbo building needs to be able to keep up with the speed of players look controls (rather mouse or thumbstick)

  • Reticle Bloom and Bullet Spread need to be fine-tuned. (the combination of these 2 mechanics feel a bit much)
    [side note] Bullet spread should be in direct correlation with reticle bloom. Reticle Bloom should recover a bit faster than currently set if this is implemented and account for how fast the player is moving in accordance with if the player is standing or crouching with crouching giving greater aim due to it’s slower pace and standing giving more reticle bloom thus increasing bullet spread due to it’s faster pace of movement (this should also be adjusted for ADS and Hip firing)

Stamina recharge delay, reloading and weapon swapping take too long. (Players are constantly in combat! They need the ability to recover and move quick to defend against multiple teams and 3rd party attacks. I understand that teamwork is what the game is based on but one cannot and should not be made to depend on or rely on a teammate. Teamwork should be supportive and complimentive not required!)

[side note] Fortnite should be made for all players of all skill types not just casual players. This will allow the game to become more attractive to a wider audience as opposed to just trolls, children, low skilled players, party game players and people who just item shop in the store.

Steps to Reproduce

Play the game for 30 to 90 days. Take assessments of what is happening from match to match. Actually try to be good at the game and grow skill wise. Make necessary gameplay changes, upgrades, adjustments and improves. Collect player responses to changes for further assessments. Do not cater to one player typer. Balance gameplay for all player types and not just low skilled players who don’t play and improve.

Expected Result

Devs will be able to make proper, informed changes to the game for longevity and continued enjoy of the game!

The actual results have been carefully listed above in great detail. Please take the proper time to read, test and apply all necessary information to make appropriate changes, improvements and adjustments to Fortnite.
