I totally agree with you. It does’t really matter what style or guides people begin with as long as people actually do something. However, the only one thing that i have to point out as i have said before is that the fact that BITGEM3D models look small, low poly doesn’t actually make them any simple. The fact is those stylized models require more 2d artwork than actual 3d modeling. Many of the people who are not experienced artist can’t actually paint those high quality textures.
Once again is all up to the people who actually do something. They can just post the models in and let the more experienced people give them feedback.
Also as you can see in the photo-based models i made even though its photo-based is very low poly, even compared with the BITGEM3D models which are made by a pro artist.
Agreed, Hand painted textures are a lot harder than a realistic style and the style that pointed is easier.
Also a realistic style doesnt always mean to have more polygons than a hand painted stuff.
With the realistic style we could agree to have a library of textures and then we will all have the same kind of bricks, wood and so, and it will look cleaner
You can find the version (UE 4.6.1) from the above video at my branch.
I haven’t had time to add comments or clean stuff so it’s pretty awful.
Tomorrow i am leaving for five months so i won’t be able to provide any help or updates for a while, but i do hope this will help someone
I was messing around with the project. Good work. I am still learning unreal engine, most of the time not as fast as I would like. I figured I would try to run it in 4.7 to be able to use the latest features, but I cant get the program to open. The engine complains about missing victory plugins .dll. I tried to use the compile auto solution with no luck. Anyone able to point me in the right direction to fix this?
I really like how much your project has progressed! I haven’t checked the forums for a while. I have some web hosting space, a project management system, forums, and git set up if you need storage space for your project. My footer has the information. I’ve experienced a lot of mod project that disappear over time so I’ve put a lot of work trying to create a resource hub for community projects organized under a nonprofit structure. If you think a project management system would be useful let me know!
I’m a C++ coder mostly. you can see my Github page . http://lancejz.github.io/ and this is my current project in the Alpha stage. GitHub - LanceJZ/Base-Defender: Base Defender using SFML 2.3.2 I am using Facebook as a blog for it .facebook.com/pages/Panther-Game-Studio/560922777259899
Let me know if I can be of any use. I just got Unity 4.7.2 as it became free. So I will be learning the game engine in my spare time.
I think it would be both fun, and a great learning experience to get involved in a group effort.
Hi all,
Great project, I’d love to get involved. I pretty new to all this, game design, but I have played with the ut editor, and I am a novice blender 3D modeller.
It’s a bummer this thread/project is dead! I just found this and it looks great; a lot it could teach me. I’ve tried opening it with 4.7.6 but as others have mentioned it has missing .dll’s that can’t be rebuild from the launcher or editor. I suppose I could download 4.6.1 and check it out in there but if the project is unable to be rebuilt for 4.7.x and/or the upcoming 4.8.x then I suppose there will be little use. I know said in February that he was leaving for 5 months so we only have a month to go… Hopefully he will be motivated to get this updated and back on track!
Wow, that’s awesome! Great looking project. I’m still new to UE4 but I will try to contribute as my skills progress. Would be nice if there was a “to-do” or project list of items needing to be done; it would make diving into the project a little easier rather than siphoning through to find what’s already been done and inventing something that is only to face the possibility of the addition being rejected.
Anyway, thanks for the fast update! 's fork seems to be a little more advanced in features so I just took the plugin folder from the master updated folder and put it into 's.
Out of curiosity, what does the victory plugin do specifically for the game? I’m sure I probably missed this somewhere in the threads since I didn’t read all 10 pages but I thought this was all pure blueprint functionality, although I would suspect that some C++ would come in at some point. Or is this a plugin for the editor and if so, what is it doing for the editor?
4.8 It wasnt working properly for me (I use Thommies branch for reverse engineering), 4.7 no problem with a copy of ramas VictoryPlugin from around the 4.7.1ish days, right before it went to 6 mb.
Wow, you guys made some good progress. I’ve got sidetracked by a lot of work stuff and could not get involved in this as much as I want to. But I might be able to jump back in soon.
I don’t know if this is still being worked on too often but I just thought I would report that I tried loading it with the latest UE4 4.11.2 but it says:
Missing or incompatible modules in VictoryPlugin plugin - would you like to disable it? You will no longer be able to open any assets created using it.
I can see in the source it says it was updated for 4.11 but I’m pretty new to UE4 and don’t really know C++ much yet. So I don’t know how to fix it but thought I could at least report the issue. I may just not be loading it properly or something?
