Communities: newest thread replies don't load when the thread has deleted posts

Summary

Fortnite Communities: the newest replies in a thread are invisible when the thread has deleted posts. The thread page stops loading before the last replies, so new posts (and “X replied to you” notifications) point at replies nobody can see.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open a Communities thread that has some deleted replies. Example: POST YOUR LAP RECORD – GET ON THE BOARD! | Fortnite Communities (it had 4 deleted replies).
  2. Keep posting until the live post count is just under a multiple of 20, while live + deleted posts go over it (here: 39 live posts, 43 positions including the 4 deleted ones).
  3. Open the thread (signed in or signed out) and scroll to the bottom.

Expected Result

All live replies load, with the newest reply at the bottom of the thread.

Observed Result

The thread ends at an older reply. The newest replies (positions 41-43 here) never load, including my own new reply right after I posted it, even though I got a “replied to you” notification for one of them. Once one more reply was posted (41 live posts), all of the hidden replies appeared.

Additional Notes

From the thread API (GET /api/community/thread?hashId=XZXM&postsPage=N&postsPageSize=20): postCount was 39 (replyCount 38), but the posts take positions 0-42, because deleted posts keep their position (deleted at 10, 27, 28, 40). The page appears to load ceil(postCount / 20) batches of 20, so batch 3 (positions 40+) was never requested. Counting deleted positions too, or loading until a batch comes back empty, would fix it.
There is no bug category for Communities, so I filed this under Creative, UEFN / Other.

Thank you, I’ll get this over to the team.

They are investigating and believe they have found the cause.

Thank you for reporting @xxgeek33d, this should be fixed.
