Cloth simulation waving erratically

I just started a new project and I’d like to put some cloth simulation in the scene, I follow the usual steps, import a mesh, imported it as skeletal mesh, opened the skeletal mesh, create clothing data and use the internal cloth weight paint system to apply clothing data, I then proceeded to enable the collide with environment and force collision update toggle switches and this was the end result:

The movement is very erratic and wavy, can’t figure out what step I missed or why it’s doing this. It was just a plane subdivided in blender and then exported as an FBX file and imported as a skeletal mesh. Has anyone experienced something similar?
