There is a lot of animation with perfectly clean root motion out there for Unreal Engine using the Mannequin Skeleton. But from what I can find is Root Motion itself is hand animated which takes a lot of time and is a tedious task for most animators.
Would it be possible to use a lot of the animations with root motion to train an ONNX model to be able to generate clean Root Motion for motion capture that doesn’t have Root Motion yet?
The UE Devs seem to be working a lot more with models they are training and making excellent tools for us to use. So I’m wondering if this could be possible too, for us that may have a lot of mocap but not a lot of time to create Root Motion.
I know this is such a niche need, but would be awesome if someone developed a tool like that built into Unreal.
I know you can retarget the root based off the pelvis, but that root motion is far from great
