I am trying to run the City Sample project but it keeps coming up with a message that the Houdini Engine Plugin is missing. If I continue it also informs me the Traffic Plugin, city sample mass crowd plugin, the HoverDrone Plugin, the Soundscape plugin and the city sampler sensor grid plugin are all missing.
Got the same problem - however it also looks like there are actualy no updates to the UE5 installations. That Is the launcher opens and UE5 is there, but I still have the link to UE_5.0EA - but it is not spelled out in the launcher what it actually - it looks like I do not have UE5 installed yet… very confusing, that laucher is still!
Edit: Seems like the only option is to use the verify option in the launcher and see what happens.
2nd edit - looks like the UE5 version I have now is Early access still. Guess i need to remove it at install the new version.
There should be a CitySample_HoudiniFiles.zip file in the City Sample folder. There is also a readme file as well.
The readme contents:
This readme explains how to set up Houdini to use the City Sample Source.
Prerequisites:
At least 2gb of free space to extract the data and generate small cities.
Use Houdini 18.5.532 as it is the version used for the creation of the demo.
Run Houdini once to make sure it generates the startup files needed for the following steps.
Create a new folder on your computer where the City Sample Source will be extracted.
For the following steps let’s assume that the new created folder is: D:\CitySampleSource
Extract the content of the CitySample_HoudiniFiles.zip file into the new folder created at step 1.
Once extracted, you should have a “Small_City” folder like so: D:\CitySampleSource\Small_City
Open the “houdini.env” file located in your Windows document folder.
Example: C:\Users{your_user_name}\Documents\houdini18.5\houdini.env
At the bottom of the “houdini.env” file, add a new line and copy-paste the following line in.
HOUDINI_PATH = D:/CitySampleSource/Small_City/houdini;&
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ copy the previous line ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Make sure that you replace the “D:/CitySampleSource” part of the path with the actual
location where you extracted the Small_City folder if it is different. Also VERY important
to use forward slashes “/” and not Windows default back slashes “” in the “houdini.env” file.
Save the “houdini.env” file and start Houdini.
If everything is good, you should be able to find the City Sample operators in
Houdini’s Tab menu when inside a Geometry node. Look under the Epic Games sub-menu.
You can now open the Houdini HIP file and explore the graph.
D:\CitySampleSource\Small_City\Small_City.hip
I have the same issue. Also, if I add the new sample crowd or sample vehicles from my Vault to any UE5 project, they come in pretty much as empty folders.
The link from the original announcement is mislinked and its misleading. You must start the Epic Games Launcher. Click Samples from the top bar and then scroll down is City Sample.
Click the “Free” then select the location which should be a hard disk to permanent store at its over 99GB.
I can tell you are using the Epic Games MarketPlace WEBSITE not the app that’s why it says “unavailable” because the EG Launcher is not enabled.
Good luck finding the approx 99GB download space.
I downloaded mine overnight!on my 2TB drive
@Jimbohalo10
Having the same issue as @FromZed but I am in the launcher and have already clicked free. But it still says unavailable. So not sure what is going on with it right now.
I took the screenshot from the Launcher actually. I had “bought” it yesterday but didnt know I had to download it till I woke up today. Went to get in on but for some reason it just saves unavailable
The Lyra start game as well as the Valley of the ancient are just fine. This is the only one that says it is unavailable
I got the space but no download lol
I’ll do some more research tonight maybe. Have to keep getting some work done first. Bummer cause that thing looks awesome. Please let me know if you find anything!!
I can confirm here the same thing. I downloaded it on another computer of mine yesterday and it installed. But on my friends computer and my laptop I am met with this. I should add that is has been removed from the Vault aswell.
I’ve got the same issue? I uninstalled Epic Games then reinstalled it on my SSD. But I cant download the City Sample anymore as it just says Unavailable
@FromZed@anonymous_user_1c20ce92 Looks like we just have to wait and see what epic decides to do with it at this point. Have looked around and talked to a few people in the unreal slackers discord they all seem to be having the same issue.
