Posting here in case someone else has this issue. I was able to figure out a workaround, but it was challenging to google what was going on. Hopefully some keywords in here are useful.
Why can’t you use a cine camera on a character and also use that character in local multiplayer split screen? If you try to do this the 2nd player screen will share a ghost image / transparent overlay of the 1st player screen.
In this image there are two pawns. They are both facing the same direction, and player 2 is behind player 1 looking towards player 1.
The top image is player 1 (represented by 2 green balls) the bottom image is supposed to be player 2 (represented by a single red ball).
As you can see, player 2’s view has a somewhat transparent image of what player 1 is seeing.
I wasn’t able to understand why this was happening, but I was able to narrow it down to the cine camera. If you’re using a cine camera in your pawn instead of a regular camera this issue pops up in split screen, but if you switch to a regular camera everything works as intended.
In my case I use cine cams in pawns for artistic reasons, but in this project I don’t need that functionality, so switching to a regular camera is totally fine. BUT, It would be neat to learn why this is happening, as well as if I’m wrong about exactly what is occurring
For reference to contrast against the above image, this is what it looks like using a regular camera;
